The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation is a not-for-profit corporation responsible for the safe and efficient movement of marine traffic through the Canadian Seaway. The Corporation plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the waterway remains a safe and well-managed system to enable ships to transit between Montreal and Lake Erie, through bridges and 13 locks.

Role

The Millwright builds, modifies, installs and maintains, in the shop or on work sites, canal machinery and mechanical equipment, in order to ensure optimum operating performance and reliability of the Seaway system.

 

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical maintenance, inspect, maintain, dismantle, repair and assemble machinery structures (locks, bridges) and light and heavy equipment.
  • Modify or build parts for the machinery and structures of the locks, bridges and buildings, according to specifications.
  • Assemble, install, test, maintain & repair equipment and machinery.
  • Perform hydraulic maintenance and inspect diesel and gas engines.
  • Assist with civil work, as required.
  • Operate lifting equipment.
  • Unload and/or load and transport heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Complete standard maintenance field reports.
  • Perform minor welding and cutting repairs.

Experience and knowledge

  • Minimum of two (2) to five (5) years of experience in maintenance, installation and inspection of heavy equipment and mechanical work.
  • Demonstrated ability to use various tools, measurement instruments and machining equipment.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and rigging procedures and techniques.
  • Knowledge of the applicable procedures, standards and safe work practices with respect to performing duties.

Education

  • Diplôme d’études professionnelles - DEP (Québec) OR completion of an apprenticeship program or equivalent (ON) in Industrial Mechanics or related field

Certifications

  • Certificate of Qualification as Millwright in Ontario or Quebec(CCQ)
  • Valid Class G (ON) or Class 5 (QC) driver's license and insurable driving record

Hours of work: 40 per week

Salary range: $CAN38,58/hour (min) to $CAN41,15/hour (max)
