Assignment: Temporary (Fall 2024)

Hours of work:  37.5 per week  (Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 16:30)

Hourly wage:  20,68$ - 25,78$

 

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) is a not-for-profit management corporation. The SLSMC is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of marine traffic through the Canadian Seaway and the Great Lakes. Thirteen of the Seaway’s fifteen locks are situated between Montreal (QC) and Lake Erie (ON). The SLSMC has approximately 475 employees working in Ontario and Quebec. The SLSMC has operating units in the Montreal (QC) area, St. Catharines (ON) and in the Head Office in Cornwall (ON).

 

Role of the engineering department

The engineering team is responsible to maintain, upgrade and integrate all systems related to the operation of locks, movable bridges and related property. The electrical engineering team systems include 600V power distribution systems, motor and motor control drives, automation systems with HMI/Scada systems, building systems, lighting systems, marine security systems, microwave and radio communications, and fiber optic installations. In our St. Catharines region, we have our own electrical power generation station and High Voltage power distribution system that is connected to the grid and is our primary power supply. We are also upgrading and integrating new modern technologies such as Lidar detection systems, hardware/software in the loop simulators and other intelligent systems to enhance the operation of the seaway canal.

 

Your responsibilities

Under the supervision of an electrical engineer, you will support the following engineering tasks:

  • Drafting of technical specifications
  • Review & mark-ups of electrical drawings including review of as-built drawings
  • Perform preliminary electrical calculations
  • Support construction site inspections
  • Support the project bidding process
  • Review as-built plans
  • Research supplier specifications
  • Support Troubleshooting and commissioning activities

 

Your profile

  • Be enrolled full-time in a bachelor of electrical engineering program
  • Have knowledge of the MS Office suite
  • Have familiarity or working knowledge of CAD software such as AutoCAD
  • Have attention to detail
