Your role

Contribute directly to operational performance by assessing the capability of vessels to safely and efficiently transit the Seaway network, while ensuring compliance with hazardous cargo requirements and all applicable regulations.

Your responsibilities

  • Review ship plans and data to evaluate the ability of vessels to transit the Seaway system, and communicate with shipyards and owners regarding transit and equipment requirements;
  • Liaise and coordinate with the shipping industry and other agencies on standards, requirements, and procedures related to vessel operations;
  • Promote navigational safety and provide advice to Regional Operations Services on complex nautical issues;
  • Review and assess accidents, equipment failures, and other marine incidents that occur within the Seaway system;
  • Carry out studies related to developments in the marine industry and assess impacts on Seaway operations, regulations, inspections, and other requirements.

 

Your profile

  • Diploma of post-secondary technical studies related to the maritime field;
  • Certificate of competency as Master Mariner, valid for Canadian ships;
  • Eligible to obtain the title of Law Enforcement Officer upon completion of Seaway training;
  • Marine pilotage certification (an asset);
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in marine operations, particularly in marine surveying, inspections, accident investigations, and hazardous cargo transportation;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of marine legislation, hazardous cargo regulations, and Seaway regulations;
  • Strong decision-making skills and attention to detail;
  • High integrity and professionalism, with strong ethical standards;
  • Proficient in French and English, both verbal and written, to communicate with teams located in Québec and Ontario;
  • Eligibility for Marine Transportation Security Clearance;
  • Availability to undergo a medical examination, functional abilities evaluation, and drug test;
  • Ability to work at heights, near open water, and in confined spaces;
  • Valid Class G (ON) or Class 5 (QC) driver’s license with an insurable driving record;
  • Frequent travel expected, depending on project needs and locations.
